So there has been lots of talk on Twitter lately about beauty bloggers ‘Holy Grail’ products. So this post is my top 10 makeup products. These are all products I would buy again and again. I had to limit it to 10 products and makeup items only. If I was to include skincare or haircare, this would be a ridiculously long post! This is a collaboration post with Chloe Leonard, a fellow makeup artist and beauty blogger from Ireland. I will be posting her holy grail products this weekend. However let’s see what I picked first!
First up is the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation. This foundation seems to be universally loved by beauty bloggers everywhere. It has a light to medium coverage but is buildable. I love it because it just looks like my skin but better. It gives a lovely dewy to satin finish and is perfect for dry to combination skins. If you are very dry skinned I’d recommend the serum version of this. The only qualms I have is that I wear the lightest shade, 51, and it is just a touch too dark for me. So I either blend slightly down my neck or I add a touch of white foundation to lighten it.
Next is Vichy Dermablend Setting Powder. This finely milled loose powder is translucent so perfect for every skin tone. I have this in my kit and have used it on dark skin tones. It doesn’t leave that ashy tone like some translucent powders can.
It’s very finely milled so applies beautifully. I use a large powder brush to apply and find it doesn't leave a cakey appearance to the skin. I find this will help keep the shine at bay for a good 8 hours, if not more.
One of my all-time favourite concealers is Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection concealer. This is another product that is loved by beauty buffs. It’s a good concealer with plenty of coverage. It blends easily on the skin and can be used on blemishes or under eye circles. It’s a bit on the dry side so it might not work for everyone but I really love it. And best of all it is super cheap! However the writing always wears off the package for some reason though.
Another pretty obvious pick is the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. I have awful issues with eyeshadows creasing on me and this is honestly the only eyeshadow primer I have found that works. It helps keep my eyeshadow on all day long with no creasing or fading. It is a bit on the expensive side but you only need a tiny bit each time. I use this on all my clients too!
My next Holy Grail product is a blush. The one I have chosen is Mac Pinch O’ Peach. In case you were wondering, I dropped this once so the lid is slightly broken. This is probably my favourite blush of all time, just because I find it works on almost every skin tone. Its name is a bit misleading as this is actually a pink blush, with very subtle undertones of peach.
It gives a lovely natural blush to the cheeks and it’s one I find I reach for most often in my kit. Especially for brides. If you have a very dark skin tone, this might be a little light for you but it can be built up to quite a bright pink. It’s a blush I recommend everyone should try.
Next is a cream colour base from Mac in the shade Luna. Now first off I am so sorry about the bristles in the product. I did not realise it until after the picture was taken. Also this is my own personal product and not for my kit.
Anyway Luna is a white cream base with a frost finish. Because I am so pale, I use this as a cream highlight. It gives the most amazing dewy finish to the skin. I also love using this on my cupids bow and lower lip. The frosty highlight really makes you lips look plumper. As you can see, I love this product so much, I've hit pan.
The last makeup product I have on this list is Mac’s lip liner in Subculture. This is the perfect neutral coloured lip liner that will suit everyone. It is a neutral pink with brown undertones that is perfect to be used under almost any colour lipstick. I use this constantly in my kit.
Lastly I have three brushes.
First up is the Blank Canvas Cosmetics F20 Flat Top Kabuki Brush. I have already raved about how much I love this brush in another post, so check that out here. In short it’s amazing for applying foundation and I love it!
Next is the Mac 217 blending eye brush. I have many blending brushes but nothing can compare to the 217. It makes blending out a smokey eye a dream. It’s stiff enough to blend your eyeshadow really well but not too stiff that it hurts or is scratchy. In fact it’s very soft to touch. The dome shape will suits most eye shapes too. I have had this brush for about 5 years now. Besides the slight staining you can see (it’s not dirty I promise) and the fact the writing on it has faded, it is exactly the same as when I first bought it.
Lastly we have the Mac 266 angled brush. An angled brush might seem like an odd choice to pick but here’s why I did. It’s the perfect size and is thin enough to use for filling in brows or for lining your eyes with liquid or gel eyeliner. You can use it to apply gel eyeliner to both your upper and lower waterline too. Its small size means you can apply the thinnest of eyeliner. It also means you won’t apply your brow powder too heavy. Oh and you can also use it to define a cut crease eye look. In short it’s a must have for me and my kit!
